چکیده

We consider the task of testing properties of Boolean functions that are invariant under linear transformations of the Boolean cube. Previous work in property testing, including the linearity test and the test for Reed-Muller codes, has mostly focused on such tasks for linear properties. The one exception is a test due to Green for “triangle freeness”: a function f : {0, 1}n → {0, 1} satisfies this property if f(x), f(y), f(x+ y) do not all equal 1, for any pair x, y ∈ {0, 1}n. Here we extend this test to a more systematic study of testing for linear-invariant non-linear properties. We consider properties that are described by a single forbidden pattern (and its linear transformations), i.e., a property is given by k points v1, . . . , vk ∈ {0, 1} k and f : {0, 1}n → {0, 1} satisfies the property that if for all linear maps L : {0, 1}k → {0, 1}n it is the case that f(L(v1)), . . . , f(L(vk)) do not all equal 1. We show that this property is testable if the underlying matroid specified by v1, . . . , vk is a graphic matroid. This extends Green’s result to an infinite class of new properties. Our techniques extend those of Green and in particular we establish a link between the notion of “1-complexity linear systems” of Green and Tao, and graphic matroids, to derive the results. Testing Linear-Invariant Non-linear Properties: A Short Report

The rich collection of successes in property testing raises a natural question: Why are so many different properties turning out to be locally testable? Are there some broad “features” of properties that make them testable? Kaufman and Sudan (STOC 2008) proposed the study of the relationship between the invariances satisfied by a property and its testability. Particularly, they studied properti...

Adaptive fuzzy pole placement for stabilization of non-linear systems

A new approach for pole placement of nonlinear systems using state feedback and fuzzy system is proposed. We use a new online fuzzy training method to identify and to obtain a fuzzy model for the unknown nonlinear system using only the system input and output. Then, we linearized this identified model at each sampling time to have an approximate linear time varying system. In order to stabilize...

Testing for Stochastic Non- Linearity in the Rational Expectations Permanent Income Hypothesis

The Rational Expectations Permanent Income Hypothesis implies that consumption follows a martingale. However, most empirical tests have rejected the hypothesis. Those empirical tests are based on linear models. If the data generating process is non-linear, conventional tests may not assess some of the randomness properly. As a result, inference based on conventional tests of linear models can b...

DR AF T On the Semantics of Local Characterizations for Linear - Invariant Properties ∗

A property of functions on a vector space is said to be linear-invariant if it is closed under linear transformations of the domain. Linear-invariant properties are some of the most well-studied properties in the field of property testing. Testable linear-invariant properties can always be characterized by socalled local constraints, and of late there has been a rapidly developing body of resea...
